SEYM is presently reviewing and rewriting Faith and Practice. Traditionally each Yearly Meeting has a Faith and Practice or Discipline that reflects Quaker values and describes current practices. By necessity, Friends' Disciplines have evolved over the past 300 years. SEYM's Faith and Practice presently is an 8.5 x 11 page tape-bound booklet as it undergoes revision. SEYM's Faith and Practice Committee is hard at work with two objectives: 1) to provide constituent members and attenders an up-to-date manual and 2) to have a hard-bound or paper-back bound Faith and Practice within 5 years. THIS can only be accomplished if Meetings fully participate in the process to ensure all voices are heard. To accomplish this goal, it is imperative that the SEYM Faith and Practice Committee receive suggestions FROM each Meeting BEFORE another draft comes forward. Please click here for a full printable description of this process. Process One of the members of the Faith and Practice committee writes the first draft of the new or to-be-changed section. The author and the Committee work on the section until it is ready to be sent to Meetings. EACH meeting is requested to thresh/review the section and provide written feedback to the Faith and Practice committee. The committee considers all replies and writes a second draft to be threshed at a Yearly Meeting workshop session to create a third draft to be presented at Yearly Meeting for approval. Time line Early Fall: January 14:
Yearly Business Meeting workshop session for review/revision/final draft. For complete list of available sections in pdf format, please go to SEYM Faith and Practice. |
